Black Skimmer
Rynchops niger
A winter visitor to San Diego beaches. Breeding and feeding in the Arctic. This bird feeds at night, dusk and dawn by swooping low over the water until a small fish hits its bill.
It then closes its beak and chows down. A most unusual bird!
