Pygmy Nuthatch
Sitta pygmaea

This little bird lives in the coniferous forests of Southern California. There are dense populations on Mt. Laguna and Palomar. They nest in tree cavities and hunker down in their burrows on cold winter days. The species may be threatened as the pines in our mountains die off.
